The Magic in the Moment

What a crazy few days it has been!  I feel like I haven't stopped running since I moved in.  The days are long, but very rewarding.  As of Wednesday, I am name tag official!  It is such an honor to be apart of such a wonderful Disney Family.  I have met so many great leaders and comrades; we all work together so fluidly to perform the best show.

Thursday was my first training day.  I learned of the many sides to Disney and came across many learning opportunities.  My trainer, Layla, was such a joy.  We laughed all day and I am so happy to have met her.  This was the day I was to receive my costume and walk through Tomorrowland to begin to familiarize myself with the merchandise.  My costume consists of a simple space cadet-like button up shirt and black shorts.  I am lucky to have this costume when compared to other hostesses with long skirts and long sleeved blouses.  With this costume, I should stay cooler, longer.  The best parts of the day were when I would run into a princess.  Layla could immediately tell when there was a princess in the room from my quick lack of attention.  She said one time after passing Belle, "You are turning bright red!"  Although a young adult, this is the magic of Disney - turning the adult into the young child again.  Every time I see a character, I am awestruck.

Friday was such a blast!  I decided to venture away from the apartment and explore for myself.  Learning the job is learning your surroundings, so, of course, I studied in Hollywood Studios.  Although not my park, it is helpful to be knowledgeable of the surrounding parks in case a Guest is curious of other opportunities.  I studied at The Little Mermaid Live Show, Animation Studios, One Man's Dream, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Fantasmic, and Rockin' Roller Coaster .... 3 times!  Little Mermaid was glorious!  The black light was brilliant and the puppeteers were so fluid with their fish.  Ariel had a wonderful and soothing voice that melted my heart.  Next time, I hope to see Indiana Jones and Beauty and the Beast; I also hope to study hard like this again, soon!

Today, was the first hands on day for the newest Merchandising team.  We were able to work with the cash registers and learn the Disney way to count.  This was much fun as I thought back to my childhood when I would go to The Children's Museum only to play with the cash register.

I see my days getting busier, but I am happy to put together such a wonderful show for our Guests.  One day, I was inside the Magic Kingdom when the doors were first opened and the magic rang of such glory.  As my body went numb from excitement and tears started flowing down my cheeks, I realized this is where I belong.  I belong in a place of magic and service.  The faces of kids from ages 1-100 make our job worth it.

Do These Slippers Come With Insoles?

Whistle While I Work....

Phew!  What an exhausting day!  There was no whistling here.  My 15 hour day included ID checks, background checks, fingerprinting, parking permits, and the ever popular, unpacking.  On the bus, we played Disney Trivia.  I just happened to know who Annette Funicello was and her important role to the Mickey Mouse Club.  (Thank you Full House for her guest appearance!)

However, the most magical part of the day was the job assignments!  This was the most anticipated stop of the day.  So, the moment we have all been waiting for, my job is ... (cue the royal horns) Merchandise in Magic Kindgom's Tomorrowland.  Once she told me, I had to ask what that meant.  Tomorrowland is the futuristic park full of Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, Monster's Inc. and Space Mountain.  We believe that I will be in one of the gift shops at the end of an attraction.  Those are the shops where children run around wanting everything and parents groan because of Disney's clever placement of irresistible merchandise.

Although it is not Princess Galore, it will be an experience!  Training is on Thursday, followed by a complete tour of the park on Friday.  We shall see where the magic takes me.

Awaiting the Magic

Entering the Kingdom....

Snow White and her two, favorite dwarfs (mom and dad) have arrived! After arriving at the palace that is Double Tree Suites, we took the carriage to Downtown Disney.

Walking through the park was absolutely magical.  My smile was stretched like the Cheshire Cat's - grinning from ear to ear.  All night I could not help but imagine the experience I am to have.  Little girls walked by in Cinderella gowns and boys were astounded by the extravagant Lego art.  Cast members were all aglow with excitement and gaiety.

Arriving at the Disney store was like the five year old girl inside of me arriving at the candy store.  It must have been 7 wings wide!  With each new section, I began to memorize the shelves just in case this was to be the store I am placed in to work.  In the middle, stood a model of Cinderella's Castle.  I could already picture the fireworks shooting out from behind with Mickey orchestrating the lights.

Tomorrow is the highly anticipated day.  MOVE IN DAY.  May 21st has been on my calendar since March 1st, when I got my Disney Acceptance Letter.  I can  not believe the day is finally here!  Who knows where I will be living, or who my cast member roommate will be?  Which Dwarf will I get?

Anxiously Waiting,

Disney World: Where Dreams Come True

Into the Looking Glass...

As you may know, I was accepted into Disney's College Program in Merchandising.  In order for you to keep up with my magical schedule, I have decided to keep a blog running.  At least once a week, I hope to journal all of the memories I make here in Disney World.

Merchandising is the job I have accepted.  In the future, I hope to work my way up to becoming a performer in a Disney show or parade.  The ultimate dream is becoming Princess Snow White.  With this in mind, I have taken the Pen Name, Snow White.  Disney is the land "Where Dreams Come True."  Maybe if you believe along with me, my dream of becoming a Princess will come true.

Find your Fairy Godmother, wish upon a star, make sure your shoe fits, don't eat the apple, or trust any witches, and come along on the adventure of a lifetime!

Kisses,
Snow White
